Helen Grace Olsen, 83, passed away, surrounded by her family, on January 28, 2010, after a long battle with Parkinsonism.
Born February 11, 1926 in Pascagoula, Ms, she was a devout catholic and a lifelong member of Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church. She graduated from Our Lady of Victories High School in 1945 and retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding Corp. ( now Northrop Grumman) after 35 years in Marine Engineering and Nuclear Power Dept. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, John Darrah and Ida Camille Boney Olsen; two brothers, John Darrah, Jr. “ J.D.” and Charles L. Olsen; a special brother-in-law, Ray G. Cox and a great niece, Nicole Olsen.
She is survived by her sisters; Dorothy F. Cox, Mary Olsen Wilson, Patricia Olsen; sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Al Higginbotham; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Katherine Olsen; a sister-in-law, D’vonne Olsen; four nieces, Sharon Camille Higginbotham, Susan (Elliot) Bloxom, Dee ( Donald) Williamson and Donna ( Scott) Walker; ten nephews, Michael Cox, Greg (Ann) Cox, Brad ( Regena) Cox, Carey, Sr. ( Elizabeth), Steve, Johnny (Carol), Rick ( Melanie), Bobby (Amirah), Kurt ( Debra), and Darrah Olsen, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, February 1, 2010 at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church from 10-11 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Interment will conclude services at Greenwood Cemetery in Pascagoula, MS. Ms. Olsen’s nephews will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society or OLV Building Fund.
