Birdie Commiskey Obituary

Birdie Mary Young Commiskey, 94, of Daphne, Al died October 14, 2018. She was born to the late Luther H. and Birdie King Young, December 3, 1923, in Hattiesburg, MS. Birdie graduated from Petal High School. She received her Nursing degree at Methodist Hospital in Hattiesburg and advanced training at Vanderbilt before her career as a Registered Nurse. She was married to Michael J. Commiskey of Hattiesburg in 1948. She was a long time resident of Pascagoula MS, a founding member of Sacred Heart Parish Catholic Church, as well as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Duchess de Chaumont Chapter and the Colonial Dames XVII Century, Singing River Chapter. Birdie enjoyed reading and the challenge of genealogy research for friends & family. She is joining siblings, Luther H Young Jr, Glenn G Young, Carrol Young, Olga I Young, and Lawrence B H Young.

Birdie is survived by her 4 children and their spouses. Michael J. and Sandra Commiskey Jr of Daphne AL; Patricia Commiskey and Philip L. Daugherty of New Orleans LA; Peggy Commiskey-Miller of Pineville, LA; Charles E. Commiskey of New Orleans LA. She was the proud MiMi to seven grandchildren: Christine Commiskey Curtis, Kaitlin Amelia Commiskey, Meagan Allison Daugherty, Sarah Marie Commiskey, Michael Donahue Miller, Patrick Young Miller, Mary Margaret Miller; and a favorite Aunt Birt to many nieces & nephews.

Special thanks to the many wonderful people providing love, gentle care & assistance to Miss Birdie. SAADS Hospice team, nurses & staff especially Connie, Charline, Ashley, April & Cecelia. Thank you ComfortKeepers. Especially Dawn, a special friend & caregiver. Thank you Deacon Bill Robinson & Eucharist Minister Sandy Robinson from Christ the King Catholic Church, dear friends of Miss Birdie. Our family appreciates Father Michael Kelleher and his staff for assisting with the services and comfort that has been given to our family.

Thursday, October 18, 2018, Rosary will be recited at 5:00PM with Visitation from 5:30-7:00 PM at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula MS

Friday, October 19, 2018, Funeral Mass, 11:30AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pascagoula MS. Interment at 1:30PM, Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, MS
