Evelyn Roberts Nelson passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018 in Pascagoula, MS.
Evelyn and her twin brother completed the family of nine children born to Tyra and Flora Roberts. At the age of 10 she was involved in an auto accident and was told her leg would need to be amputated but the family decided to wait and see. Even as a young child her tenacity and grit for life shone bright as she beat the odds and could outwalk most people. She worked in secretarial positions at Singing River Hospital and Ingalls Shipbuilding in earlier years. In August of 1978 she married Bill and her love for travel became evident. Together they traveled the world living in Brazil, and Italy and various other places. She was always eager for the next adventure life had to offer. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and loved her family. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Pascagoula and will be missed greatly.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Peters; 8 siblings, Nina Parker, Clarence Roberts, Wilbur Roberts, Guy Roberts, Esther McLeod, Alvin Roberts, Kate Hillman, and her twin brother, Clyde Roberts.
She is survived by her husband William “Bill” Nelson of Moss Point, MS ; daughter, Susan Martinez (Eddie) of Pascagoula ; grandchildren, Dee Ann Majure (Michael), Leslie King (John), Christopher Peters and Jared Peters; 5 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, December 22, 2018 at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Chapel in Pascagoula at 12 pm with visitation one hour prior to service. Interment will conclude at Machpelah Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed online at www.obryantokeefe.com.
