Roland Joseph Mestayer, Jr. died peacefully at his home in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, on November 29, 2018. The son of Roland Joseph Mestayer and Alice Elliot Mestayer, he was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 7, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved wife of 48 years, Nora Bingham Mestayer. He is survived by his five children: Dr. Roland Joseph Mestayer, III (Suzie), Mignon Mestayer DeLashmet (Pemble), Nora Mestayer Wikoff (Edward), Elliot Gerard Mestayer, and Matthew Gerard Mestayer (Kellie). He was also survived by his siblings, Henry Filmore Mestayer (Beatrice), Leea Mestayer Pittenger, Ann Mestayer Laville (Parkerson); and grandchildren: Joseph, Zoie, and Maggie Mestayer; Wilbur, Henry, Louis, and Annie DeLashmet; Hannah, Bingham, Daniel, Ross, and Jack Wikoff; and Mary Agnes, Matthew, Caston, and Nora Mestayer.
Roland was a devoted husband, loving father, and faithful Catholic. He received a law degree from Loyola University in New Orleans, and a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University after his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army where he earned the rank of Second Lieutenant assigned to counter intelligence. He was a lifetime resident of the Gulf Coast and practiced tax law for over fifty years. He was a Man of Manresa for over forty years, and was active in the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He loved the Sacrament of Mass and the Holy Rosary. His favorite pastime, among many, was traveling with his wife, Nora, siblings, and many friends. He was a gentleman to all who knew him and he will be greatly missed.
Mass of Resurrection will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pascagoula, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 Monday morning. Burial will follow at Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
