Alma Erlyne Griffin passed away at the age of 82 at her home in Gautier, MS. on Thursday, July 21, 2023.
Alma was born on September 5, 1940 to Joseph and Fannie Pearce in Straight Bayou, MS. She and her husband, Doulpus Griffin moved to Gautier in 1957 and there she remained until her death. She was a longtime active and faithful member of Gautier United Methodist Church. She is described as happy and bossy or maybe just happy she was the boss, regardless, she is known for her smile and hearty laugh. In the 60’s she was known as the crossing guard for Gautier Elementary, in the 70’s, she worked as a mail carrier, she also worked as a Surgical Tech Nurse at Singing River Hospital until she retired. Although she enjoyed all these occupations, her greatest accomplishment was the position of a mother. Not just to her three boys but a momma figure to many through the years. She was strong and determined yet kind and compassionate. Go Rest High, your work on earth is done.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Doulpus Devoid Griffin; longtime companion, Jimmy Bro; a daughter, Elizabeth Rose Griffin; a granddaughter, Catheryn Griffin and four siblings.
She is survived by three sons, Ed Griffin (Margaret Brooks) of Vancleave, MS, Chance Griffin (Vickie Thomson) of Laurel, MS, and Don Griffin (Donya) of Biloxi, MS; ten grandchildren, Eron Griffin of Salem, OR, Jarrod Griffin (Yady) of Fairhope, AL, Anna Buckley (Mark) of Hurley , MS, Brett Brooks of Vancleave, MS, Angela Martin and Grady Griffin of Laurel, MS, Drake Griffin (Veronica Livingston) of Vancleave, MS, Kelsey Griffin of Pensacola, FL, Nick Reynolds (Sara) of Orlando, FL and Alesha McDaniels (Devon) of Vancleave, MS; nine great grandchildren, Cherish Griffin, Avarie Buckley, Gabriel, Xavier and Lety Olmedo, Michael and Breanna Olt, Ari and Ava McDaniels and one more soon to arrive.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to caregivers Connie “Lisa” Tanner and Dora Dean for their kind and compassionate care they gave in the recent months.
Visitation will be Monday, July 24, 2023 from 10am -11am at Gautier O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home with funeral service in the chapel beginning at 11am. Interment will conclude at Martin Family Cemetery in Gautier, MS. Condolences can be expressed online at www.obryantokeefe.com.
