Anne Grigsby Moore passed away Monday, May 11, 2026 in Ocean Springs, MS at the age of 93.
Anne was born in Natchez, MS to William and Annie Grigsby on June 14, 1932. She met and fell in love with Ben C. Moore and on July 31, 1954 they became one. She was an English teacher and her career followed him. First while Ben was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base she taught at Gulfport High School and after the service she taught Grad-School at Ole Miss while he was in law school. They moved to Pascagoula in the early 60’s, where she taught at Pascagoula High School. As a mother of two boys, she decided it was time to take a break from teaching and make time for those things most important to her. In the early 70’s she became involved with the Education Alliance for the Arts serving over the years on the local, regional and national level while also serving at the Kennedy Center of Arts. Anne also service on the board of directors for the Walter Anderson Museum and worked tirelessly after Hurricane Katrina obtaining grants for Pascagoula and Ocean Springs area. Even with the many hours serving the community she remained a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She was a teacher at heart, investing in her students and her community. Over the years she and Ben hosted several Foreign Exchange Student, her children often referring to the many young men that stayed with them as brothers from another mother. Many of these relationships held steadfast over the years. She and Ben were generous with their time and resources and in the end reaped the benefits of a life lived well.
She was preceded in death by her parents and survived by her husband of 71 years, Ben C. Moore of Pascagoula; sons. Benjamin Dowd Moore III and Charles “Chuck” Harmon Moore and his wife Kathy of TX; and a brother Robert “Bob” Lee Grigsby and his wife Linda.
Funeral Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church Pascagoula, MS at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to service with Rev. Matt Mitchell officiating. Interment will conclude at Greenwood Cemetery.
