In Loving Memory of Sissy Clarke Adkins
Our hearts are heavy as we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Beryl Lee Clarke Adkins, affectionately known as "Sissy" or "MiMi" by her family and friends peacefully, departed from this world on September 17th, 2023, at the age of 81. Her memory will forever be etched in our hearts, and her legacy will continue to inspire us all.
Sissy was born and raised in the small town of Pascagoula, Mississippi, where she shared her childhood with her parents, George and Vera Clarke, and her five cherished sisters. She held a special place in her heart for her hometown and its close-knit community.
Sissy's pursuit of knowledge led her to the University of Southern Mississippi, where she embarked on her academic journey, laying the foundation for her lifelong love of learning. As time passed, she embraced her role as a mother, becoming the loving and nurturing parent of three children.
Family was paramount in Sissy's life. She relished every moment spent with her children, Edward Lee Shepherd, Donna Shepherd Ennis, and James "Jimmy" Thomas Shepherd. Her devotion to her family extended to her two grandchildren, Anna Ennis Tait and Lawrence Shepherd Ennis, as well as her son-in-law, Dr. Scott Ennis, and grandson-in-law, Tyler Tait. Her love knew no bounds, and her family was truly everything to her.
Sissy was not only a mother and grandmother; she was a devoted sister to Kaye Clarke Lyons, Barbara Clarke Leslie, Judith Clarke Reutter, Georgeanne Clarke Cochran, and Mary Clarke Oliver. She leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who adored her and felt the warmth of her love throughout their lives.
Throughout her life, Sissy had a profound passion for knowledge. She was a true Bible scholar, finding solace and inspiration in the pages of God's word, most of which she committed to memory. Her dedication to studying, reading, and meditating on scripture was an embodiment of her unwavering faith.
Sissy was a woman of many talents and interests. She delved into the world of nutrition, knitting, sewing, and had a deep love for fashion. Her creativity and sense of style were admired by all who knew her.
A visitation in remembrance of Sissy will be held on Tuesday, September 26th, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Pascagoula, Mississippi. The service will be followed by a graveside ceremony, where she will find eternal rest.
Sissy leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her spirit will forever be a source of inspiration for us all. May she find eternal peace in the embrace of the Lord.
