Carol was born on March 5, 1955, in Jackson, MS to Elizabeth Rosa Taylor Cartwright Nobles and George Carroll Cartwright. She grew up on the family cotton farm, Bright Bank Plantation in Midnight, MS. Her early years on the farm were happy ones. She loved her brother, George Carroll Cartwright, Jr. and animals. Her favorites being a puppy named Elvis and of course, Tony the Pony. When she was eight years old, her father suffered a heart attack while working in the fields and passed away two days later. Her mother took a job teaching school in nearby, Belzoni, MS and moved the family there. Carol loved her Delta upbringing and was always proud of her Delta roots. She frequently told stories of parties on the levees, friends far and wide, and of the many interesting pets they acquired.
In 1972, her mother remarried to Russell Nobles, and the family moved to Jackson, MS. She graduated from Council Manhattan High School in 1973 and then attended Hinds Junior College for a year where she performed as a Hinds Hi-Stepper displaying her love of music, dance, and rhythm. She entered school at Mississippi State University in 1973 and graduated with a degree in Library Science in 1977. Upon graduation, she submitted applications to teach in Atlanta with hopes to move there. A college friend’s father told her of an opening for an Elementary Librarian at South Elementary in Pascagoula, MS. She applied, accepted the job, and moved to Pascagoula in 1977.
A mutual friend introduced Carol to Lin Jacobson in January of 1978. She didn’t seem to be impressed, but once he took her sailing and out to the islands, she fell for the coast and him. They were married on June 7, 1980. She continued teaching until the birth of their first daughter, Beth in 1983. They welcomed their second daughter, Anna in 1987, and son, Lin III surprised everyone in 1990. Carol returned to work and ended her career as the Head Librarian at Pascagoula High School, retiring in 2022.
Carol loved the outdoors and sunshine. She was an avid tennis player. Beach combing, boating, yard work, and antiquing were a few of her favorite activities. In more recent years, she most enjoyed spending time with her family and watching her granddaughter, Mavis grow.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Caroll Cartwright and her stepfather, Russell Nobles.
Carol is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Rosa Taylor Carwright Nobles; her brother, George Caroll Cartwright, Jr. (Annie Elias, Ray); her husband, Carl Lin Jacobson, Jr.; children, Elizabeth Hall Jacobson, Anna Jacobson Allen (Richard), Carl Lin Jacobson III; and granddaughter, Mavis Ruth Allen.
