Carolyn Reeves Read passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at the age of 84.
Carolyn was born on August 9, 1941 in Bogue Chitto, MS to Henry Carl and Mary Lucille Reeves. She and her husband Terry had two sons, Terrell and Derek. For nearly 40 years, she dedicated herself to her work at Ingalls Shipbuilding, most of that time serving as an executive secretary.
She loved bowling, especially the tournament in Ft Walton Beach where those trips weren’t just about the game, they were about laughter, time together, and making memories that would last a lifetime. She also enjoyed going home to Bogue Chitto and visiting with family, being a part of the Ingalls Management Association and those events like the golf tournament, picnic, Christmas Party, IMA Spring Ball where she served as duchess and Queen, and being one of the founding members of the Krewe of El Mar and the Jackson County Carnival Association helping organize some of the first Pascagoula parades. She served as duchess and Queen of El Mar.
She was the kind of person you could always count on—organized, dependable, and deeply committed. But as much as she gave to her career, it was nothing compared to what she gave to her family. In spite the busy demands of life she always found ways to put her children first. But her truly cherished role came later when she became a grandmother. Her love for them was active and endless, until her final breath her love never failed. The values and life lessons were not just spoken they were lived.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert “Terry” Read in 2006.
She is survived by two sons, W. Terrell Read and wife Joy and Derek Read and his wife, Melinda all of Pascagoula; a brother Jerry Read and his wife Lois of Ocean Springs; three grandsons, Trey Read, Connor Read and Charlton Read; two great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 6, 2026, 11:00-12:00 noon, at First Baptist Church in Pascagoula. Service Celebrating her Life will begin at 12 noon at the church.
