Charles Edward Young, 94, passed away on September 4, 2025, in Mobile, AL
Charles was born July 25, 1931 in Florence, SC to the late Frank E. and Mary V. Young. His father being a store manager for Montgomery Ward’s, Charles moved several times in his childhood finally settling in Fredericksburg, VA. He participated in multiple sports and graduated from James Monroe High School. Charles served in the United States Marine Corp and saw action in the Korean Conflict in 1951. He attended Virginia Commonwealth University where he met Beverly A. Smith. On September 3,1955 they married and took up residence in New Orleans, LA. Charles graduated from Tulane University in June 1964. The family moved to Pascagoula, MS in 1970 where he worked for Ingalls Shipbuilding and was actively involved with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Knights of Columbus. Charles’ first wife passed away in 1998, and he later remarried Earlene Caraway Harwell.
In addition to his parents Charles was preceded in death by his wives, Beverly and Earlene and his sister Ruth Brooks.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen A Sumrall and her husband, David; his grandson, Michael; his son, David M. Young; his stepson Steve Harwell and two sisters Mary Lou Suter and Joan Wilson.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 11, 2025 at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula, MS from 5-7 pm with rosary recited at 5pm. Funeral Service will be held Friday at 10am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Graveside service will conclude with military honors at Mobile Memorial Gardens at 1pm.
