Charles Wayne Tolbert passed away at 8:21pm on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at the age of 78.
Wayne was born in Philadelphia, MS on February 18, 1946 to Earl and Evie Tolbert. He served in the United States Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam. He worked as a barber in Jackson County for over 50 years. Going to work was more than a job, he loved talking to the people and sharing stories. His relationship with his customers was more like that of a family. A family that he treasured.
In 1966 he met and married Bonnie Alvarez, together they raised 3 children, Joseph, Gregory and Jeffrey. He was of the Pentecostal faith attending First United Pentecostal Church in Moss Point and later Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church in Lucedale. He loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his family. This giant of a man will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Tolbert.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Tolbert of Lucedale, MS, Joseph Andrew Tolbert (Amanda) of Lucedale, MS, Gregory Wayne Tolbert (Karen) of Hurley, MS and Jeffrey Earl Tolbert (Kristin ) of Lucedale, MS; siblings, Faye Teer Simmons (Steve) of Moss Point, MS, Buford Tolbert (Barbara) of Ocean Springs, MS, Jimmy Tolbert of Moss Point, MS and Alan Tolbert of Pensacola, Florida; grandchildren Victoria Varner (Jerrit), Gavin Tolbert (Madison), Ainsley Clark (Rusty), Stone Tolbert (Emily), Karson Tolbert, Kaden Tolbert and seven great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 25, 2024 at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula from 11:00am-12:30pm. Funeral Service will begin at 12:30 in the Chapel with Bro Gary Cronier officiating.
