Deborah kay Wake, 69, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, January 25, 2024 joining her parents and daughter in their eternal home.
Deborah was born on October 21, 1954 in Danville, Illinois to Kenneth and Mildred Wake. Most of her younger life was spent in West Palm Beach, Florida. This experience gave her a love for the beach and coastal living she never outgrew. She left home at 15 to start her own life. Her work ethic was incredible. She worked hard until the very end pushing through, like mothers do. For many years, she worked as a medical receptionist, paralegal, retired to care for her father, and most recently owned a cleaning business. She enjoyed shopping, sewing, camping, spending time with family and dancing, as she was a member of the parade group “Southern Chaos Dance.”
Her greatest passion was being a mother. She lived for her children, burning the candle at both ends to provide for them. She was a great listener and always offered words of wisdom she gained through hard patches of life. No matter how busy, she would always make time for coffee and conversations. She was easy to like as she had an infectious smile that expressed her warmth towards people. She knew how much she was loved by her children and was an inspiration to many others. We were blessed to have her in our lives.
Deborah’s fighting spirit and strength endured throughout her treatment for gastric cancer.
In addition to her Kenneth and Mildred Wake, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Candace Kay Carter.
She is survived by her husband Mark Hammonds; siblings, Wade Wake and Sandra Wake; four children, Adrian Gillan (Noel), CaSandra Bazor (Robert), Richard Carter (Kristille) and Laurence Fairbanks (Brook); nine grandchildren, Kayleigh Carter, Summer Brown (Hank), Ian Schexnayder, Mia Bazor, Brooke Bazor, Robert Bazor, Jr., Cobie Carter, Beau Carter and Olivia Carter; Two great-grandchildren, Ezra Brown and Elianna Brown and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A private family graveside will take place at Pinecrest Cemetery in Gautier, MS where she will be put to rest beside her daughter.
A celebration of her life will be held at 12PM, Sunday February 25, 2024 at Lakeshore Community Center in Bay St. Louis.
