Doris “Nannie” Ladnier, 94, of Pascagoula MS died Jan. 3rd 2022 in Westminster Village Skilled Nursing Facility, Spanish Fort AL.  She was born Sept. 2, 1927, to the late Elbert and Julia (Breland) Ryals.  Nannie was a reflection of the Lord, and she loved unconditionally. She never met a stranger and always made people feel important and cared for.  She was devoted to her family and has a family that loved and cherished her. One of her callings was to read to children. She spent many hours doing just that when owning a kindergarten, working as a teacher’s aid at Lake Elementary and at home to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.   She loved children and this is so evident in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s love for her.   She loved spending time with her grands and great grands and it shows in the relationships she had with them.  She was a faithful member of Ingalls Avenue Baptist church for over 25 years where she taught the Adult Ladies Sunday School for 20+ years.  She kept up with her adult children and wanted to know each Sunday, “Did you go to church today?”, all the way up until she lost track of what day of the week it was.  She had the gift of hospitality and welcomed people of all ages and all types into her home.  She loved playing games/cards and was always competitive.  She would always say we are not keeping score but would want to know “Who beat?” or especially liked saying “I beat!”.  She could even play tennis left and right-handed.  Special thanks to Eastlawn Methodist “Hillstoppers” where mother really enjoyed her Tuesday game days! Also special thanks to George and Glenda Ely who were mom (and dad’s) long time friends and Friday night card partners.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Hermes E Ladnier, 8 Ryals sisters and 6 Ryals brothers.  She loved being from a big family and especially loved having a twin sister (Dorothy).  In later years, it was only 5 minutes into any conversation, and she would say “you know I am a twin?”

She is survived by two daughters and 2 sons, Barbara Earle (John) of Huntsville AL, Mark Ladnier (Paula) of Charlotte NC, Gary Ladnier (Shauna) of Daphne AL, and Bonnie Smith (Josh) of Pascagoula MS.  Grandchildren, Daena Riley (Glenn) of Huntsville AL, Jeremy Earle (Nicole) of Huntsville AL, Kristen Tippee (Jake) of Athens AL, Emily Hahn (Tyler) of Charlotte NC, Rachel Ladnier of Charlotte NC and Matthew Ladnier (Ann-Marie) of Charlotte NC, Autumn Tingle (Brian) of Houston TX, Heath Ladnier (Hannah) of Atlanta GA, Jordan Lee (Ryan) of Daphne AL, Aaron Smith (Chris) of Gautier MS, Andy Smith (Liz) of Pascagoula MS and Adam Smith (Mercedes) of Gulfport MS.
