Dorothy Mae Huffman Mullen passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 in Ocean Springs, MS surrounded by family.
She was born January 27, 1936 in Norphlet, AR, the only child of Harry Jones Huffman and MaeBelle Meinelt Huffman. Due to her father’s work, the family relocated to Waynesboro, MS when Dorothy was 8 years old. She loved Waynesboro and visited friends there often. Dorothy graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1954, salutatorian of her class. She attended the University of Southern Mississippi and MS Gulf Coast Community College. She and Billy Wayne (B.W.) Mullen were married on December 23, 1955.
Dorothy was a resident of Pascagoula for over 50 years. She served as Executive Officer of the Southeast Mississippi Home Builders Association for over 26 years. She was a member and past president of the Pascagoula Garden Club, founding member and past president of Pascagoula High School Parents Soccer Organization. She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church of Pascagoula, where she was a former Sunday School teacher, served on the Administrative Board, was a greeter, and was a member of Price-Cofield Circle United Methodist Women. Dorothy Loved traveling, gardening, animals, reading, life and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her son, Harry Benjamin (Ben) Mullen and daughter-in-law, Marie Prine Mullen, Ocean Springs; three nephews, one niece and her beloved dog, Maggie.
Funeral Service celebrating her life will be Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church of Pascagoula at 2:00pm with Rev. Eddie Kirby officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until 2pm. Interment will follow at Machpelah Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Pascagoula. The family especially wants to thank all the staff at Lighthouse Assisted Living in Ocean Springs for their excellent care and love provided to Dorothy in the years she called Lighthouse home.
