Dorothy Pelan Wells

Dorothy Pelan Wells, a long-time resident of Pascagoula, passed away Monday the 11th of November at The Carrington Nursing Home in Starkville, MS. Dot (as she was known by friends and family) was born on October 18, 1934 in Quincy, MA.  The daughter of the late William D. and Sarah A. (Greenhalgh) Pelan of Pascagoula, she graduated from Pascagoula High School in 1953 and attended the University of Mississippi.  Dot returned home to work at Ingalls Shipyard in the accounting department until 1957.   In 1957 she married her childhood sweetheart, Thomas T. Wells and moved to Camp LeJeune in North Carolina where Tommy served in the Marine Corp.  After residing in North Carolina, they moved back to Pascagoula where Dot worked at First Federal Savings and Loan as the insurance administrator from 1973 until 1997.    During her career at First Federal customers depended on her to help them with their business and keep things running smoothly.  Dot was active in the Republican Ladies of Pascagoula and was an integral member of the PHS-2 Committee that helped save the old Pascagoula High School building having it placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000 and the Mississippi Heritage Trust in 2005.  One of Dot's great passions in her life was her cats and she was always making sure that any furry felines roaming her neighborhood had a warm place to sleep and a bowl of food always available. Dot is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Thomas T. Wells and other relatives and friends.

Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, November 17 at 2:00 pm Griffin Cemetery n Moss Point.  O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula is in charge of arrangements.  You may share a memorial or your thoughts about her at www.obryantokeefe.com.
