Edward Charles “Jim” Freeman was born in Pascagoula on May 18, 1930, to Howard C. and Ione “Nonie” Freeman. He was a 1948 graduate of Our Lady of Victories High School and enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War. Jim retired in May 1992 after a 40-year career at Ingalls Shipbuilding where he served as the General Superintendent of the Paint Department.
He was married to the love of his life, Ella Kay Cooley Freeman for nearly 40 years. Jim loved his family and grandchildren, adventure, fishing, woodworking and time spent with friends. His knowledge, advice, friendship and support will be missed by many.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Howard C. and Ione Freeman of Pascagoula and his son John C. Freeman of Ocean Springs. He is survived by his wife, Ella Kay Cooley Freeman of Vancleave, Miss.; children, Mike (Lisa) Freeman of Bella Vista, Ark., Tom (Jennifer) Freeman of Ocean Springs, Kathy Freeman of Austin, Tex., Carol (Dan) Mickow of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Diane (Richard) Pace of Franklin, Tenn., and Robert (Lorri) Freeman of Moss Point, Miss; Sharron (Vince) McGahee of Kemah, Tex., Kim Harper of Lillian, Ala. and Teresa (Jeremiah) Criswell of Rosenburg, Tex.; grandchildren, Kristen (Schuyler), Clay, Marianne, Taylor, Jacob, Brittney (Blake), Jourdan, Kathryn (Landon), Matthew, Erin (Thomas), Derek (Chelsea), Blake and Jacob; great grandchildren, Beau, Rhett, Brody, Jocelyn, Jordyn, Camden and Coralee; sister, Marion Trehern of Pascagoula, Miss.; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 19. 2020 , 10:00-12:00 noon at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Pascagoula. Funeral Mass will begin at 12 noon and interment will follow at Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula.
Due to the concerns of COVID-19, face masks will be required to be worn and social distancing will be necessary.
