Elroy Joseph Toups, Sr.

On Friday, October 29, 2021, Elroy Joseph Toups Sr., while surrounded by his three children, passed from this life into the arms of his loving savior Jesus Christ. He was 88 yrs. Of age. Elroy was preceded in death five years ago by his wife, Cecile Marie Toups (aka: The Angel Lady). Losing Cecile was quite a hardship for Elroy, as the two of them enjoyed their marriage together for 64 years. Elroy was born and raised in Delcambre, LA and was the youngest of five children. His father introduced him to the meaning of HARD work at a very young age, as the family owned and operated a dairy farm. Being that Elroy was the family’s only son, he developed a work ethic that caused him to rise very early every morning and make the most of every hour he was given. He was an extremely loyal man, and that skill set was carried over to his marriage and the raising of his three children. In 1961, Elroy and Cecile made their journey to the MS Gulf Coast area, where he began his 33 yr. career at Ingalls Shipbuilding. Elroy was always a “quick learner” and because of that he was able to develop a carpentry skill that carried him to the role of General Foreman in the carpentry department at Ingalls Shipbuilding. His retirement came in 1994 and it wasn’t an easy thing for him, because he was at his very best when he was busy and working hard on a project. His other interest was manicuring his lawn and growing flowers and shrubs that were simply unbelievable. Many times, he would just raise them up and give them away so he could stay busy doing it all over again. Elroy and Cecile were very faithful to their local church, Sacred Heart Catholic, and together they served faithfully together until Cecile’s passing. Elroy was preceded in death by his parents, Dua & Edith Toups; his four older sisters: Amaze Comeaux, Bea Foreman, Ruth Hudson & Mary Brown Byrd. He is survived by his three children: Elroy Toups Jr (Nancy); Kathy Toups Gurley (James); Linda Toups Nulta (Maurice). Five grandchildren: Christopher Toups, Amanda Toups Craig (Josh), Dennis Gurley (Diana), Jamie Gurley Whitfield (Eric), Brittany Nulta Castille (Corey). Twelve great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and their families.

Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday, November 02, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pascagoula, MS. There will be a thirty-minute viewing from 12:30-1:00 p.m. and the mass will begin at 1:00 p.m. Father Lalo will be officiating the service. Interment will follow at Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula. The family would like to offer a “SPECIAL THANKS” to the Hospice of Light-Singing River Systems for their incredible help. It came with great compassion, diligence, and an amazing level of loving treatment.
