Emma R. Wilson Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Emma Ross Vinson Wilson who left us on May 23, 2025 at the age of 95.  Born on November 13, 1929 in Rankin County, MS to Earl Buford Vinson and Inez Welch Vinson, Emma spent the majority of her life in Mississippi, graduating from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in 1951.

In 1959, she and her husband, Edmund A. Wilson (deceased), settled in Pascagoula, where they raised their beloved daughter, Evelyn (deceased).

Both Emma and Ed were deeply involved in their community. Ed practiced law and served as a City Judge for several years, while Emma dedicated her time to numerous civic and social organizations. She was an active member of the Anola Civic Club, Magnolia Garden Club, The Maskers Mardi Gras Club, Twentieth Century Club, and participated in three different bridge clubs.   Emma was a faithful member of St. John’s Episcopal Church where she worshipped and served with devotion the majority of her life.

Like her daughter Evelyn, Emma found both joy and peace in her garden.  She embraced the world through travel, relished the mental challenge of a good crossword, jumble or Sudoku--and often lost herself in the pages of a gripping mystery.  A spirited and loyal fan, she cheered on her Ole Miss Rebels with passion—and on occasion, a few well-placed “colorful words”.  Above all, Emma cherished time spent with her friends.  A true Southern belle, she welcomed guests with warmth, grace, and an effortless charm that made everyone feel instantly at home.

Whether with old friends or new acquaintances, Emma’s quick wit and playful sarcasm made every interaction memorable.  She had a rare gift for brightening any moment—transforming even the briefest exchange into a joyful encounter, often punctuated by a perfectly timed one-liner that left behind both a smile and a lasting impression.

Emma is lovingly remembered by her large and devoted family in Brandon, Mississippi as well as her cherished friends—including Nita (Leonard) Fuller; Ellen (M.R.) Cole, Rhonda (Charles) Shook; Gene (Stephanie) Martin; Kathy (Mike) Khayat; Sarah (Mickey) McConnell; Dale (Barbie) Harkey; Irma (Louis) Stiglet; Dona (Curt) Gore; Rick Minkler and her beloved family at St. John’s.

In this time of mourning, we take comfort in the love and memories we shared with her.  She will be deeply missed by many and forever remembered.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church (Parish Hall), located at 3507 Pine Street; Pascagoula, MS 39567.    A Celebration of the Resurrection will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary with graveside burial immediately after at Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula.

The Reverend Elizabeth Graham and the Reverend Myron Lockey will officiate the services.

Pallbearers will be:  Philip Vinson, Chris Vinson, Peyton Vinson, Parker Vinson, Steve Stringfellow and Curt Gore.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint John’s Episcopal Church.  You may send condolences or share a memory of Emma on the Tribute Wall on her obituary page.
