Eric was a lifelong resident of the Moss Point, Pascagoula, Gautier area. He graduated from Pascagoula High School in 1976 and was looking forward to their 50th Reunion over the weekend when he unexpectantly passed away at home. Although, Eric had encountered a number of health issue in the last few years, he always seemed to bounce back confirming his belief in the power of positive thinking and an optimistic attitude.
While Studying at the University of Southern Mississippi, Eric thought his calling would be journalism, but he was soon proved wrong when he and cohost, Todd Adams, created the popular “Freaks of Nature” morning show on radio station WKKY. His talent for improvisation flourished when he and Adams engaged in their quick and witty back and forth exchanges. Part of their job was creating commercials for the show which led to Eric’s true talent in advertising. In 1987, Eric formed the Von Suthoff & Company advertising agency for a number of years then formed Rainmaker Advertising. Eric’s creativity resulted in a number of Addy Awards given each year for Excellence in Advertising. His logos, signs, slogans and television commercials reached a wide audience and were well received. You can still see many of the works he created in businesses and as you drive around the area today. Most important, he enjoyed his work and it showed. Eric enjoyed local and national politics and created all the materials for a number of local candidates running for office.
Most people will remember him as a great friend who was not only fun, but a friend who could empathize with you when you’re down. Eric had an extra fun gene and his friends enjoyed being around him. He enjoyed bike riding, tennis and of late, he was passionate about ping pong. He and his friends formed a challenging and dedicate ping pong group which was the bright spot in his day up until the very end. Eric loved his family, his friends and his very special companions, Lucky and Happy.
Eric is survived by his son, Tylor Suthoff (April Nicole), his daughter, Amanda Suthoff, three grandchildren Mia, Hayden, Gabrielle, Lee and Nichalas, his sister, Connie Betz (Bob), nephew Kyle, as well as many beloved first cousins. Eric is preceded in death by his parents, Norville and Alberta Suthoff (nee McLeod) and one grandson, Brandon.
