Dorothy Evelyn Noonan, passed away July 17, 2020 at the age of 94, was born January 26, 1926 in Stewart, MS to Vester Earl and Gladys Aline (Jacks) Daughety, who preceded her in death.
Also preceding her in death; husband of 62 years, Robert “Bob” Noonan Sr, who passed away in 2007; a son Robert “Bobby” Noonan Jr; daughter, Karen Noonan, son-in-law, Ricky Owens, great-grandson, Brennen Ward; two sisters and husbands, Brownie (Coy) Nail, Edna Earl (Brooks) Jenkins and brother-in-law, Vernon Montgomery.
She is survived by daughter, Kathleen “Kathy” (James) Owens -Stewart of Pearl, MS; son, Michael “Mike” Noonan of Pascagoula, MS; 6 grandchildren, Kelly, Shelly, Michael Jr., April, Scott, and Casey; 14 great- grandchildren; sister, Doris Montgomery; brothers, Billy (Doris) Daughety and Jimmy (Susan) Daughtey; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Evelyn, the oldest of six children was born and raised on a small farm in Stewart, MS, alongside her parents and siblings, where she learned to raise crops, pick cotton, participate in hog killings, raise chickens and all other farming needs. She could tell you anything you needed to know about plants, flowers, birds and trees, where to find a pine knot to make a fire, how to bait a hook and all other matters of nature.
In 1944 she graduated from Big Black Central High School, located in Kilmichael, MS. After graduation she, with three cousins commuted during World War II, (1944) to work in a defense plant in Memphis, TN where she met her future husband Bob, who was a service man in the Army Air Corp. On November 25, 1944, Evelyn and Bob where married in Desoto County, MS.
Evelyn and Bob with children along the way lived in multiple locations; Brooklyn, NY, Reading, PA, St Louis, MO, New Orleans, LA and Mississippi cities of Jackson, Greenwood, Greenville, Ocean Springs and for the past 50 years, Pascagoula.
She worked for Sears-Roebucks catalog division (Jackson and Pascagoula) for many years. Retiring in 1985 upon the sale of the Noonan Insurance Agency.
She served as a Cub and Girl Scout leader and was a longtime member of Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church, she also served on the Altar Society.
Family oriented, always the optimist, malice toward none and compassion for the sick and needy. A person that will truly be missed by family and friends. The world will be less without her, but heaven will be better with her in it.
The family will receive friends Monday, July 20, 2020 from 11am-12noon at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home with service to follow in the chapel at 12noon. Interment will conclude services at Machpelah Cemetery. If you plan to attend please comply with social distancing guidelines, facial masks are required.
