Francis O'Brien Sr. Obituary

Francis Lee O’Brien Sr. passed away at his home on Sunday, February 3, 2019.

Francis was born November 2, 1931 in Pascagoula, MS to Fred Earnest and Gladys Ruth O’Brien. After graduation he proudly served his country in the Unites States Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict.  Francis became a widower at an early age and raised his children, Mary, Buddy, Sharon, and Eileen to the best of his ability. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He retired after 20 years of service with the Pascagoula Fire Department. Together with his brother, they built, owned and operated a 35 boat marina on Lake Ave. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.  As a master carpenter his true talent for building wooden boats (over 800 at last count) brought him great satisfaction.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Jo Scheeler O’Brien and his brother, Freddie Edward O’Brien.

He is survived by four children; Mary Catherine O’Brien Brasher (Al) of Richton, MS, Francis L. “Buddy” O’Brien (Bealinda) of Columbus, TX, Sharon Elizabeth O’Brien Carson (Stephen) of VanVleck, TX and Eileen; sister in law Evelyn O’Brien Toupes;6 grandchildren, Lori Greenwood of Richton, MS, Joseph O’Brien of Rosenberg, TX, Sean O’Brien, (Jaime) of Denton, TX, Corey O’Brien (Annalee) of Corpus Christi, TX, Lee Carson (Kelli) Sweeny, TX. Letha Carson of Houston, TX; 5 great grandchildren, 3 nephews and I niece.
