Garry D. “Jam” Blakeney, Sr, age 75 of Pascagoula passed at his home on Thursday, October 19, 2023. He was born March 14, 1948 in Raleigh, Mississippi to Grafton Davis Blakeney and Doris Sue Gable Blakeney.
He graduated from Pascagoula High School “Class of 1966” that included Vo-Tech where he learned the trade of machinist. After high school, he worked at Ingalls for a short period. He followed in his dad’s footsteps and started his career as a fireman in Moss Point until 1973 then transferred to Pascagoula Fire Department until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Pascagoula.
Garry loved History, Civil War reenactments and building Civil War cannons. He enjoyed watching many historical movies including North and South, Glory and the documentary at The Alamo in San Antonio. Also, he had a love for antiques including cars and restoring them. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, William “Butch” Penn.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Roberts Blakeney; three daughters and two sons, Michelle (Michael) Seaman, Hope (David) O’Brien, Garry D. Blakeney, Jr, Lauren Hays, and Jimmy Hays; 12 Grandchildren, Robbie (Christyn) McCary, Ryan T. McCary, Blakeney (Tyler) Jemison, Anna Leigh O’Brien, Taylor Smith, Kane Slade, Brantley Smith, Katie Hays, Julie Hays, James Hays, Riley Hays and Paris Toomer; 3 Great Grandchildren, Colton J. McCary, Grafton C. McCary and Jack C. McCary; his Siblings, Edith “Rainer” Shattles, Donna Penn, Regina Gable, and Jeffrey Blakeney; Mother and Father-in-law, Flo and Red Melton; sister-in-law, Nancy “Gary” Bubeck; Brother-in-law, Billy “Elisa” Roberts.
Memorial Service will be Saturday, November 4, 2023, 11:00am, at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Pascagoula. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the church.
