Gary Russell Hill, 7/07/1953 - 5/16/26, was born to Oscar August Hill and Mildred Genevie Poole at the Old Jackson County hospital in Pascagoula. He was the seventh and youngest child of that union. He was a Welder and pipe fitter at Ingalls Ship Building for many years. He was also a security guard at Mississippi Power, which was probably his favorite job.
He embodied music. He sang constantly and was known for his beautiful voice. After his stroke 3 years ago, music helped him to communicate with everyone around him. He proudly serenaded everyone who came into his hospital room. He was so well loved that the nurses all wanted to be the lucky one taking care of Mr. Gary. He also enjoyed fishing (especially in one of his rickety old boats), horseback riding, gardening, taking care of his chickens, carpentry (specially building birdhouses), studying birds, his daily walks with his Pugmug, also known as Diego, his little pug, and most of all just spending time with his family, especially his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Mildred Hill, sister, Betty Jean Latimer, brothers Raymond Hill, Douglas Hill and David Hill, mother-in-law Mary Denton, brothers-in-law Billy Trusler, Denny Denton, Leonard Trusler, Ralph Garofalo, and sisters-in law, Juanita Trusler, Janice Garofalo and Betty Hill and nephew Chris Hill.
He is survived by the love of his life, Connie Denton Hill, son Dean Hill, daughter Angel Summers (Roger Summers), grandson Ethan (Monkey) Summers, Pugmug (Diego), his special companion, brothers Cecil Hill and Rufus Hill (Wanda Hill), sisters-in-law Francis Hill, Pam Trusler and Ethel Hill, brother-in-law Joe Denton and Connie Bosarge, his horse riding partner and niece and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved very much.
Gary was known for his kindness and generosity. He was always helping someone who needed a helping hand. Whether it was helping one of his neighbors or a stranger that he met in Walmart, he was always ready to help. He never met a stranger and made new friends everywhere he went. He will be missed by his flock in the coop as well as anyone who ever met this true social butterfly, but most of all his family.
You may send condolences to his family or share a memory of Gary on the Tribute Wall.
