Gavin "Gabe" B. Collins, lovingly known as “Poppie,” passed away surrounded by family on March 17, 2026. Born on August 15, 1946 in Mobile, Alabama, Gabe lived a life marked by dedication, quiet strength, and enduring love for his family.
He spent many years working at Ingalls Shipyard, where his hard work and commitment earned the respect of those around him. Outside of work, Gabe was a man of deep devotion—especially to his late wife, Melba McKay Collins, who passed in 1998. Though she preceded him in death, he continued to honor and carry his love for her every day until his own passing.
Gabe will be remembered most for the love he gave so freely to his family and his animals. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by Tinker, the sweet faced chihuahua, also known as his best friend and companion for 18 years. He was cherished by David Pugh, Dennis Pugh, Krissy Shaw, Elisa Pugh, Christopher Pugh, Kallie Pugh, Krystal Pugh, his numerous great grandchildren, and Milo, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
“Poppie” leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, love, and quiet resilience that will not be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, March 21, 2026, at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula at 2:00pm with visitation one hour prior to service. Interment will conclude at Machpelah Cemetery. You may send condolences to his family or share a memory of him on the Tribute Wall of this website.
