George Washington Obituary

George Thomas Washington passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at home surrounded by family.

George was born March 6, 1947 in Boyle, MS. to George M. and Sarah (Jones) Washington.  He moved to the coast from Yazoo City as a young boy.  He was a 1966 Graduate of Moss Point High School.  In the eighth grade a young lady caught his eye, Virginia Hudson and this relationship was one that would last. They were married on July 9, 1966. Together they would raise four children, Lisa, Tammy, Michael and Peggy.

George had many jobs throughout his life. He started working as the age of 15, delivering newspapers in his yellow convertible throughout Moss Point.  He worked through high school at a full-service gas station in Pascagoula and as a school bus driver for the Moss Point School System. After High school he worked for:  The International Paper Co, worked in Construction, a door to door milk man for Barber Milk Co. in Mobile, Al, A delivery driver for Colonial Bread Co. in Biloxi, MS, Southland Oil in Yazoo City, MS, The Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS, Mississippi Chemical in Pascagoula, MS, and also farmed soybean and peas.  He dedicated 26 years of service to Chevron Refinery (Pascagoula, MS) working in maintenance and planning.  He retired in December of 2007.

George was a member of the First Baptist Church Vancleave in Vancleave, MS.  He was ordained as a deacon while attending Wade Baptist Church in Wade, MS.  He also formally served as the RA director for the Jackson County Baptist Association.

George was a family man who enjoyed and loved his children, and then came the grandchildren. These grands stole a place in his heart he didn’t know he had.  George enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, excavating, and mechanics.  In the past few years after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, he continued to enjoy these hobbies, and spending time with his grandkids every chance he got.  He especially loved spending time at the ballpark watching his grandson, Easton, play baseball.
