George Jackson Haines Jr passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the age of 80.
George was born in Macon, GA on February 11, 1944 to George and Agnes Haines. He worked as the Approving Officer of Food Research for the U.S. Department of Commerce and served in the National Guard for many years during the Vietnam Era. He was a prankster and loved to bring laughter to others. George was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #1120, serving in several official capacities over the years. he was also a member of the Magnolia Classic Car Club and Ingalls Avenue Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Haines.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Sylvia Haines of Pascagoula, MS; two sons, Tracy Scott Haines (Molly) and Jason Bryant Haines (Melanie); step-children Richard Sudduth, Donna Michelle Dean and Shelby Nicole Humphreys; brothers, John Emery Haines (Linda) and Dennis Ray Haines (Becky); grandchildren Chase T. Dean, Samantha R. White, Abbie Dean , Lamare Haines, Lauren Haines, Ricky Sudduth, Gene Cossey, Allie Harris and Travis Harris.; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, April 15, 2024 at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home from 11 am -1pm. Funeral Service will follow in the chapel at 1pm. Interment will conclude at Machpelah Cemetery. His family will be serving as pallbearers and brothers of the Elks Lodge will serving as honorary pallbearers. Condolences or memories can be shared online at www.obryantokeefe.com.
