Harry Carpenter

Harry Holland Carpenter passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024 in Mobile, AL at the age of 89.

Harry was born on March 31, 1935 in Shreveport, LA to Donald and Vyette Carpenter. Harry
graduated from LSU in 1957 after an illustrious track and field career. During his time at LSU,
Harry won six individual and team SEC championships. He helped lead LSU to a sweep of
SEC Indoor and Outdoor team championships for the first time in program history during his
senior season. His prolific athletic career earned Harry induction into the LSU Athletics Hall of
Fame in 1986 as one of the all-time greats to ever wear an LSU uniform.

Following his graduation, Harry entered the United States Navy as an Ensign Reserve Officer.
He served in the Navy for two years before a 24 year career with the Federal Bureau of
Investigation. Upon his retirement from the FBI, he worked as head of security for Hancock
Bank then as a private investigator for a local law firm.

Harry lived a full and remarkable life finding love not once but twice. He loved traveling,
crossword puzzles, and laughing with friends and family. He was a man of strength and integrity
who will be greatly missed. Harry was a member of the First United Methodist Church of
Pascagoula.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Charlotte Carpenter in 2000
and Barbara Carpenter in 2019. He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Carpenter in
2006.

He is survived by two children, a daughter, Terri Carpenter of Pascagoula, MS; a son, Michael
Carpenter of St. Petersburg, FL; three step-daughters, Kim (Ralph) Thomas of Dallas, TX,
Karen Purdy of Shreveport, LA, and Kris (Marcus) Clements of Shreveport, LA.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 13, 2024 from 10:30 am-12:00 noon at O’Bryant-O’Keefe
Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow in the chapel. Interment will conclude at
