Henry Eugene Lee
Better known as “Pawpaw,” Henry Eugene Lee was a man whose warmth and kindness left a lasting imprint on everyone he met. Born in Meridian, MS, he came into this world with a heart full of love and a spirit of generosity. He celebrated his 88th birthday on December 26, 2024, a milestone in a life well-lived.
On February 24th, surrounded by the love of his daughter, Terrie; his son, Tim; and his granddaughter, Kaitlin, Pawpaw peacefully passed away. Even in his final moments, his presence was a source of comfort and love to those around him.
Pawpaw grew up in Meridian and went on to serve in the Navy, dedicating years of his life to his country. He later became a hardworking business owner of Henry Lee’s Texaco on Market Street and Ingalls Avenue in Pascagoula for over 30 years. He was a man whose dedication and integrity set an example for all who knew him. His work ethic was unmatched, but it was his kindness and generosity that truly defined him. He never wanted to tell anyone “No,” always finding a way to help those in need. He was a great friend, a father like no other, and a Pawpaw who made his grandchildren feel special beyond words.
Those who had the privilege of knowing him saw firsthand the goodness in his heart. Even in his final days, the nurses caring for him were in awe of his gentle soul, often asking, “Is he always this sweet?” The answer was always yes—because Pawpaw was all good, no bad whatsoever. His smile could light up any room, and no matter the situation, he always found a reason to share that smile with others.
Henry Eugene Lee will be remembered as a wholesome, godly man—one who embodied love, kindness, and faith. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely. He attended First Baptist Church in Gautier.
