James Gunter passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 in his home surrounded by family.
James was born on March 1, 1927, in Laurel, MS, to Mack and Laura Gunter. At the age of 20, James met Mary Valentine and fell in love happily marrying her on January 29, 1947. They would spend a fairytale lifetime of almost 76 years together. Although bitter sweet, their end was a testimony to the love between them. The grief of her loss was too great and he could not go on without her. It would be 17 days after her death that they would once again be together. He left a legacy of love and endurance for all those that knew him. Together they raised 4 children, Larry, Rebecca, Judy and Brenda.
James served his county in the United States Army. He was a barber by trade and loved people and is known throughout Jackson County. He loved spending time with his family and love continued to grow when he became Papa to 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. James was member of Center Pointe Church in Ocean Springs, a voice a wisdom and reason until the end. At the age of 95, he crossed over to the other side once again to see his Mary whom he loved dearly and his maker whom he served faithfully.
