James McMahon of Purvis, MS passed away Thursday, July 16, 2020 in Hattiesburg, MS at the age of 80.
James was born May 17, 1940 to Joe and Sadie Graves McMahon. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Purvis, MS and worked for ODECO Oil Company for 34 years before retiring. During this time, he was able to travel, living in Australia, Norway, and Egypt. James was also an antique car enthusiast, taking pride in all his cars and is showed in the numerous trophies and awards he won over the years. There was more to James than work, traveling, and cars. He was a caring and compassionate man who, loved spending time with his friends and family, particularly, his grandsons. He enjoyed taking them fishing, bowling, and teaching them how play a very competitive game of dominoes. He knew that life doesn’t always let you win, and these life skills would be important down the road to these young men. He lived life to the fullest and showed us how to live and in the end, how to die. His illness was brief and fast, many things were left unsaid but we knew without it being said, he loved his family unconditionally.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Burge McMahon. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn June McMahon of Purvis, MS; one daughter, Monica Phillips (Bubba) of Purvis; two grandsons, Bradlee Williams (A’Livia) of Gautier, MS and Brandon Williams of Purvis, MS and numerous other relatives and friends.
A Private Graveside will be held out of respect for his many friends during the COVID Pandemic.Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in charge of services.
