James Trease Obituary

James Charles Trease, RET CMSGT passed away May 5, 2024.

James was born the only child to Carl and Jewell Trease on January 4, 1938 in Odessa, Texas. He received a Bachelor Degree in Music. He played the clarinet and saxophone. He began his musical career playing for the Shadow Lake 8 in Noel, Mo and later, after joining United States Air Force, playing for the returning troops from Vietnam.  Even in the twilight of his life he would continue to entertain folks in nursing homes and the local casinos.  He was inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz Band Hall of Fame. His quote, “Music has been good to me and led me down paths I never dreamed of traveling”. He used his talents to bless others.

He served and retired from the United States Air Force as Commander Chief Master Sargent serving in the Pentagon the last few years of service. He often said he learned from two groups during his military service, 1) How to do what was right to excel and 2) What not to do from those who did not. After retirement he and his beloved Gini could be found busy in various groups at the Mosaic Church and as active greeter. He greeted with a smile and always has a story to share.

In March of 2024 he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and the soldier that he was once again rose to the surface. He got his house in order and made plans to once again be with Gini when the Lord was ready.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Trease “Gini” in September of 2023 and a son, Mark Trease.

He is survived by his son, Jeff Trease of Nixa, MO, grandson, Drake Trease of Arnold, MO; great grandson, Knox Trease and one to arrive later this year. He is also survived by his Mosaic Church Family, that he loved dearly.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Mosaic Church from 12:00pm - 1:00pm with Memorial Service to follow at 1:00pm. Inurnment will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery at a later date.
