James "Jimmy" King, Sr. Obituary

James “Jimmy” Allen King Sr, age 83, of Pascagoula passed away on Sunday morning, April 6, 2025 at his residence.  He was born November 15, 1941 in Hattiesburg and has been a life time resident of Pascagoula.  Jimmy graduated in 1961 from Pascagoula High School and enjoyed playing football as Fullback and Linebacker.  After graduation, he attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College - Perkinston Campus and continued to play those positions for Perk’s college football team.

After his return to Pascagoula in 1963, he became the owner of a Chevron full-service gas station. In 1965, he founded King’s, Inc., the business he actively and devotedly operated until his illness this past year.

Jimmy was a member of the Ole Miss Football Athletic Foundation and supported his team faithfully.  He was a member of Pascagoula Planning Commission Board for over 10 years.  He was a member of Elks Lodge in Pascagoula # 1120 and has been a member of First Methodist Church in Pascagoula for over 57 years.

Jimmy married his high school sweetheart, Cynthia “Cindy” Carroll King on August 28, 1965 and together they raised two daughters and a son. He lovingly attended all of their children’s activities and continued to do the same with his grandchildren, that he was so proud to be given.

He is preceded in death by parents, Richard Milton Grant and Henry Etta Retherford Grant; infant grandson, Aaron Retherford Frye; father and mother-in-law, Clifton Byron Carroll and Lucille Love Lemons Carroll; special uncle, C. H. Retherford.

Jimmy is survived by his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 60 years, Cynthia” Cindy” Carroll King, Pascagoula; two daughters and one son, Kelley King Frye (Craig), Gautier; James “Allen” King, Jr (Michele), Ocean Springs; Colleen Elizabeth King, Gautier; four grandchildren, Walker “Reid” Frye, Dallas; Paul Saunders Frye (fiancé, Sarah Grace Parker), Long Beach; Anna “Caroline” King, Washington, D.C.; James Allen “Jak” King, III, Ocean Springs, his grand fur babies, Kingston and Lucy; special friend of the family and caregiver, Janet Bosarge; and numerous other relatives, great friends, and loving church family.

Visitation will be Friday, April 11, 2025, 10:00-11:45, at First Methodist Church in Pascagoula. Funeral Service will begin at 12 noon at the church.  Interment will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery in Gautier, MS. Pallbearers will be Robert Fortenberry, Paul Frye, Reid Frye, Marvin Holliday, Jak King, and Roman “Gabby” Vice. Honorary pallbearers will be Armand Cuevas, Steve Frye, Stanley Peterson, Captain Nick Richards, US Navy Ret, Curtis Rinks, Ken Taylor, and Charles Woods.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Jimmy to First Methodist Church in Pascagoula.  You may send condolences to the family or share your “Jimmy” story for the family to treasure on the Tribute Wall.  For those attending the services, there will be a Treasure Box at the church for you to bring your written story to be placed for family to read and treasure in the days to come.
