Joe Dorris Box

 Our Precious mother Joe Dorris Box, 80, of Helena, MS, passed away peacefully at Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama on December 27, 2021.  She was surrounded by her most loved possessions-her children, grandchildren, family, and friends.

 Joe Dorris was born in Kosciusko, MS on March 17, 1941 to Clarence Dean Quick, Sr. and Dixie Dovie (Ellington) Quick.  She married Lee Vaughn Box, Sr., and they went on to have seven children:  Sherrie, Henry, Gary, Lee, Jr., Naomi, Ray, and James Box.

 Joe Dorris was a dedicated mother and wife.  Everyone knew her as a generous soul, who had a deep love for people, but especially children.  She was always willing to cheer kids up with hugs, and offer words of encouragement to anyone in need.  She enjoyed dancing and playing with her special cat "Mittens", doing anything outdoors, cooking, eating, and spending time with family, friends, and especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She was a member of the Vancleave Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

 Joe Doris was preceded in death by her parents Mr. Clarence Dean Quick, Sr. and Dixie Dovie Quick, her husband of 42 years, Lee Vaughn Box, Sr.; her sons, Henry Dean Box and Gary Joe Box, her granddaughter Jerrie Cherie Bennett, her brother Clarence Dean Quick, Jr., her sister Veda Ann Waller, and her brother in law Joel Herbert Rogers.

She is survived in death by five of her children and their spouses; Sherrie Box (Jerry) Bennett, Lee Box, Jr., Naomi Box (Brian) Rouse, Ray (Renee) Box, and James (Sonya) Box.  Her grandchildren:  Gary Dean (Trisha) Box, Joseph (Cindy) Flint, Dylan Box, Cameron Box, Vanessa Box (Jake) Eckert, Lauren Rouse (James) Snow, Conner Rouse, Adaline Rouse, Chase (Malarie) Box, Loretta (Clayton) Havard, Destanee Jordan, Emily (Deon) Bradford, Ray (Devada) Box, Jr., and Brooke Box (James) Horn.  Her great grandchildren: Hannah Box, Aeriel Box, Jason Eckert, Tatum Snow, Kaysten Box, Audreigh Box, Chase Box, Jr., Laken Box, Bretton Box, Ainsley Bradford, Aria Bradford, Arabella Bradford, Jaxson Havard, Jakari Jackson, Ja'Vontae Jackson, Bentley Box, Fletcher Horn,  Jillian Horn, Jemma Horn, Toby Mason, and Sunni Mason.  Her sister Mamie Frances Rogers, her brother O.H. (Sharon) Quick, her brother-in-law Donnie Waller, her sister-in-laws Becky Finn, Mildred Beckham, and Dorothy Ward, numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of special friends.

 Services will be held at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 4811 Telephone Road, Pascagoula, MS on Friday, December 31, 2021 with visitation at 12:00 p.m., service at 1:00 p.m. with Elder Alton Lee officiating the services.  Interment to follow at Griffin Cemetery, Dantzler Street, Moss Point, MS at 2:30 p.m.

Pallbearers:  Gary Box, Joseph Flint, Cameron Box, Dylan Box, Chase Box, Conner Rouse, and Ray Box, Jr..  Honorary Pallbearers:  Deon Bradford, Jake Eckert, Clayton Havard, James Horn and James Snow.
