John Thomas England, Sr., of Pascagoula, MS, 85, was welcomed home by his Heavenly Father in the early morning of February 6, 2020. John was affectionately known by many family and friends as “Big John,” and he was “Paw Paw” to his loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John will be remembered fondly by all for his kindness, his generosity, and his radiant smile.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Brazmuth England and Annie Lou Garrett England, and his brothers James England of Big Point, MS, and Clifford England of Montgomery, AL. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Barbara Ann “Bobbye” England, to whom he was married for over 65 years, and his brother, Harvey L. England. He is also survived by his son John England, Jr., and his daughters Jackie (Patrick) Switzer and Janet Williams, along with grandchildren James Williams and Jamie (Josh) Boyd, Jeremy (Melissa) England, Kyle (Jennifer) England, Christopher (Samantha) Switzer, Joshua (Cayla) Switzer, and his 9 great-grandchildren.
John was born in Gunnison, Mississippi, on February 5, 1935. When he was still a boy, his family moved to Pascagoula, MS, where John lived the rest of his life. He was a small business owner, well known for his service and skills at Dixie Seat Cover on Market Street. John loved the outdoors and hunting – particularly dove hunting. In addition, John enjoyed time he spent RV’ing with his friends, and he was a champion league bowler. John was a longtime member of Pascagoula Elks Lodge #1120, and he was mason in Pascagoula, MS. John also served as King of the Krewe of El Mar carnival crew in 1993. John was a member of Eastlawn Baptist Church in Pascagoula, Mississippi
Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula, from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am in the chapel with interment to follow at Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula.
