John "Sonny" Richard Scovel III

John Richard Scovel III (affectionately known as Sonny to his family) passed away Sunday, January 26th at the age of 88 surrounded by his family.

Sonny was born August 12, 1936 in Pascagoula, MS to John R & Hattie Scovel II.  He lived most of his life in Pascagoula, MS until he moved to Harleston, MS over 14 years ago.   He worked for Tommy’s Service Station in Pascagoula until he went to work installing carpet for Coast Carpet in Pascagoula until he retired.  Sonny loved fishing and woodworking. 

In addition to his parents, Sonny is preceded in death by his three sisters, Betty Lee Stringfellow, Nora (George) Houghton, Dot (Adrian) Butler; his brother-in-law, Bobby Hinson and special friend Phyllis Jones.

He is survived by his devoted sister, Frances Hinson of Harleston, MS; numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025, 10:00-11:00am, at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Pascagoula. Funeral Service will begin at 11:00am, in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula.
