Joseph Mitchell Farr passed away Monday, February 8, 2021 in Pascagoula, Mississippi at the age of 64.
Joseph was born on January 17, 1957 in Goodrich, Michigan to James C. and Maxine Farr. He moved to Mississippi as a toddler and spent most of his life here. He graduated from East Central High School and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He later met Mickey Costen who he took to see Star Trek: The Motion Picture (he was a fan of her, but not the film). They later married on October 11, 1980. Together they had two sons, Jonah and Jordan. He took additional courses at Mississippi State University to gain his credentials and went on to teach electronics at the Golden Triangle Community College in East Central Mississippi. He then became a journeyman electrician in The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He spent years working on various construction projects including the Savannah River Ammunition Plant, the Mars Candy Factory (Cleveland, Tennessee) and the New Orleans World’s Fair. Longing to be at home with family (rather than work on the road), he began working at Ingalls Shipbuilding. Starting in the craft, he was eventually able to get a job in the planning/drafting department. While working in that department, he was able to attend the University of South Alabama (primarily at night), graduating magna cum laud while raising a family and working a full-time job. He later worked as a Cost Estimator for Ingalls Shipbuilding for many years before retiring in 2019. He was a faithful member of St. Ann Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a 4th Degree Knight and served as treasurer of his Counsel. He enjoyed boating (spending many weekends with the family at the islands), fishing (fresh and salt water), cooking (smoking, grilling, and more) and family. One of his greatest pleasures was picking up the grandkids from school. They always brought a smile to his face and put a sparkle in his blue eyes. His death has left a vacancy in the lives of his family and many friends. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Ellis Farr.
He is survived by his wife, Mickey Farr of Moss Point, Mississippi; sons, Jonah Farr and his wife Kristen of Orlando, Florida; and Jordan Farr and his wife Kristian of Moss Point, Mississippi; sisters, Lois Sebastian and her husband David of Moss Point, Mississippi, and Martha Mason and her husband Gary of Mobile, Alabama; and Nancy Bible of Lucedale, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Paisley and Presley Jo Farr; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 2pm at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior. Celebrants will be Father Ryan and Father Adam. Interment will conclude at Machpelah Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Mason, Alex Poothullil, Tyler Davis, Jared Law, Larry Sisson, Colin McCoy and Jordan Monarch.
