Joshua Paul Guthans, of Gautier, passed away on September 22, 2025 at the age of 48.
Josh was born on October 14, 1976 in Philadelphia, MS. He was a 1995 graduate of Neshoba Central High School in Philadelphia, MS. He furthered his education, graduating from East Mississippi Community College in Funeral Service. He worked for Nowell Funeral Home. McLain Hayes Funeral Home, Holder Wells Funeral Home and O’ Bryant - O’Keefe Funeral Home. He was a member of Turning Point United Pentecostal Church of Gautier.
His move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast gave him his wife, Greta Wallace. On April 21, 2007, they were married and together had two children Tucker and Cooper. In 2011, Josh had a motorcycle accident that left him disabled. The years following, diabetes and other medical issues plagued him. But Josh, always the comedian and jokester, even in these times used humor to make others feel more comfortable with his situation. He was never one to complain although he had every right. He instead chose the high road and pressed on. His resilience and determination were a testimony of the life he lived. You don’t always have a choice in the hand life deals you, but you do have a choice in how you react to those circumstances.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Becky Peebles Guthans.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Greta; two sons, Tucker and Cooper Guthans; his father, Danny Guthans; brother, Jason Pierce (Karen); his mother-in-law, Donnis Ely; father-in-law, John Marvin Ely (Mary); brothers and sisters in law, Amanda and Jerry Duke, Charles and Alisa Killingsworth, Sara and Jason Pope, Mikel Ely and JLeigh Ely and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Friday, September 26, 2:00-3:00pm at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula with funeral services to follow in the chapel at 3:00pm with Rev Derrick Killingsworth officiating. Interment will conclude at Machpelah Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Tucker Guthans, Cooper Guthans, Jason Pierce, Drake Killingsworth, Chase Killingsworth, Colton Cooksey, Sawyer Ely, Jaxon Ely and Isaiah Wright.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Ginger Killingsworth. She has stepped up many times over the past few years in caring for Josh any time a need arose. Her servants heart allowed his children to participate in events and vacations that would not have been possible without her care. We will forever be indebted to her.
