Karen L. Johnson

Karen LaVerne Fulkerson Johnson age 71, of Pascagoula, MS passed April 8, 2025 after a very short cancer diagnosis.

She was born to Bernard Lloyd Sr. and Alberta Sturtz Fulkerson of Bloomington Ill, but born in Cook County Chicago Ill.  on January 24, 1954.  The Fulkerson family moved here in 1959 to start up Continental Can Company.  Pascagoula became her home where she became member of Eastlawn United Methodist Church and a 1972 Pascagoula High graduate and a few weeks later she married.  After the passing of her in laws in 1977 they raised Bruce Earl at the age of nine until he married. Before mom life got busy she was a league bowler. (Which her girls did not get that gift)

She is preceded in death by her parents and Husband Bobby Johnson of 48 years before his death in July 2020.  She ran an in home daycare from 1985 to around 1996.  She was well known for baking cookies at Christmas and was requested to make Chicken Salad for special occasions. She was known to family and friends as always having the coffee pot on.  Her family will always remember her watching the Jerry Lewis Telethon, the OJ Simpson trial, the weather channel during hurricane season, along with the birth of the baby giraffe.  Her favorite holiday was Christmas where she would make sure she had a tall fat tree and tons of decorations.  She enjoyed watching Elvis videos, facebook reels and you tube.

Angels guided her thru life’s ups and downs and new Angels would guide her to our Heavenly Fathers home.  She is survived by her children Brandi Johnson Gilliland (Matthew) of Pascagoula and Bridget Johnson Pigeon (Tony) of Lumberton, MS.  Brother in Law Bennie Frank  Johnson Sr. nephew Bennie Frank Jr.  A Special Brother in Law Bruce (Kristi) Johnson of Madison, MS.  Grandmother of Blaine, Kandice, Topanga and Mason Pigeon of Lumberton, MS.  Audrey Gilliland of Pascagoula and step grandmother,  Judy Gilliland of Athens AL. ,  aunt to Dr. Grayson Johnson of Crossville, TN and Carlisle Johnson of Madison, MS  along with other nieces and nephews.  As well as her siblings: Larry (Debra) Fulkerson, Cheryl (Steven) Rancier, and Bernard Jr (Debbie) Fulkerson. Along with one living uncle and cousins in IL (This was written by Karen weeks before her passing).

Visitation will be 10:30am - 11:30am, at O'Bryant - O'Keefe Funeral Home, Monday, April 14, 2025 with funeral service to begin at 11:30am. Karen will be laid to rest by her husband at Jackson County Memorial  Park.
