Kathy Elaine Curry Johnston, two days away from being age 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. She was born February 23, 1955 in Miami, Florida and graduated from Miami Lake High School. She received her Associate Degree in Business from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Gautier. Kathy was a former housecleaner and Nannie for seven years. She worked from 12 years for State of Mississippi Mental Health Clinic in Gautier and currently the cook for Gift of Life – Terry Waters Care Home in Gautier.
Kathy was a member of Riverside Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and loved her church family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Rogelio Curry and Vernon Phenon Shows Curry; brother, Roland Curry; sister, Anna Sjostrom; niece, Kimberly Sjostrom.
Kathy is survived by her three daughters, Jennifer Fisher (David), Ocean Springs; Rosalyn “Amber” Mangum, Pascagoula; Tracie Poweleit (Bruce Houser), Gautier; Grandchildren, David Fisher (Carie), Kimberly Fisher, Destinee Poweleit, Danaka Poweleit, Jordan Mangum (Amber), Lucas Mangum, Brayden Reed, Madeline Reed; Great-grandchildren, Wesley Mangum, Jackson Mangum, Bryce Cooper, and Beaux Southern.
Memorial Service will be Friday, February 27, 2026, 1:00pm, at Riverside Baptist Church in Pascagoula with Rev. Chris Weir and Rev. Tracy Martin officiating her service. Friends may visit from 12:00-1:00pm with the family before the service at the church.
For those of you that would like to participate, the family and friends will be wearing her favorite colors, Purple and/or Yellow at her memorial service.
