Kay Marie Browne Perez de Leon died Monday, May 29, 2023 at her home in Pascagoula and now rests in the arms of her Savior.
Kay was born June 12, 1938, in Pascagoula, to Allen Minor Brown and Condolaura Flechas Brown. She was raised in Pascagoula and attended our Lady of Victories Catholic School and Pascagoula High School. She graduated from Pascagoula High School in 1956. Upon graduation, Kay joined the religious order of the Sisters of the Most Holy Sacrament in Lafayette, LA, and eventually taught at several Catholic Schools in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
After leaving the religious order in 1967, she worked for a brief period of time in Baton Rouge, LA. In 1968, while vacationing in Mexico City, she met her future husband, Louis. After marriage, Kay lived in Mexico City for 46 years. During that time she would make regular visits home to visit family and friends. Kay then returned to live in Pascagoula. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pascagoula and a regular visitor to the Pascagoula Senior Citizens Center, where she developed many friendships.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Perez de Leon, her parents, Allen and Condolaura Brown, and her dear cousins, John and Wilka Cauley. Kay is survived by her cousins Kathy Cauley Ory, Virginia Cauley (Gary) Broadus, John Cauley, Jr., Tammy Cauley Willliams, Wendy Cauley (Chris) Stone, her beloved canine companion, Madie, and numerous extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pascagoula on Monday, June 5, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with Rosary at 10:45. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00, with Father Lalo Morè-Torres as the celebrant. Entombment will follow at Krebs Cemetery in Pascagoula.
