Leroyal " Roy" Countryman Obituary

 Roy Countryman III passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021 in Lafayette, LA.

Preceded in death by: Father Roy Countryman, Jr. and his mother, Estelle Countryman and his sister Joyce Countryman.

He attended Murphy High in Mobile, AL and received his Engineering degree from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi.

He had many occupations. He worked at McRae’s Department Store in Jackson, MS as a Window Dresser.  He worked at Knox Glass in Jackson, MS.  He then worked at Ingalls Shipyard in the Engineering Department.  He worked as a Project Manager for Perkins in Saudi Arabia.  He found his “niche” in life when he became his own boss.  He owned two used car companies: Market Street Motors and Magnolia Motors. The occupation he loved most was construction and owned Magnolia State Construction.  His partner in all his self-employment ventures was his wife, Lee Ann Countryman.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Lee Ann Countryman of Lafayette, LA. His son, Greg Pitts (Babs) of Jackson, MS, his stepson James Farrior, III (Laura) of Biloxi, MS, his stepdaughters, Loralee Tapp (Eric) of Rota Spain, Samantha Burkhalter (Craig) of Lafayette, LA.  His grandchildren, Stephan Pitts of Jackson, MS, Jordan Pitts of Jackson, MS, Austin Tapp of Chesapeake, VA, Adam Tapp of Seattle, WA, James Farrior, IV of Lafayette, LA and Timothy Saroeun of Bayou LaBatre, AL; brother- A.P. “Dink” Everette (Amy) Mobile Al; brothers in law, David (April) Glenn Los Angeles California, Steve (Kathy) Glenn, American Canyon, California; Many nephews. 

Roy was born at home in Lottie, AL on August 18th, 1935.  He was raised in Pritchard and Mobile, AL.  He moved to Jackson, MS in 1953 and became a resident of Gautier, MS in 1964.  Upon retiring he moved to Lafayette, LA.  He had many hobbies, some of which included: Archery, Fishing, Golf (he especially loved playing at Hickory Hills) and was very happy to have lived in the Villas of Hickory Hills.  He loved to drive his cart to the clubhouse to play those 18 holes.  He also enjoyed, gambling and visiting with his many buddies over coffee and beer, which he was famous for drinking together. He also loved to Cruise and actually had gone on 60 cruises.

Roy was a very generous man who loved people.  He was charming, quick witted and was a snappy dresser.  He will be missed by all that loved him. 

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 22,2021 from 11am-1pm at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula with funeral service to follow in the chapel at 1pm. Bro Eric Smith will officiate the service and conclude at Machpelah Cemetery.
