Lewis C. Smith Obituary

Lewis C. Smith, age 92, of Pascagoula passed away on Friday, April 30,2021. He was born September 26, 1928 in Sandersville, Ms to Rev. George A. Smith and Nina Beasley Smith as the 11th child of 13. Lewis graduated from Gardner High School in Laurel, Ms. He attended Millsap's College before enlisting in the Mississippi National Guard and was called for active duty as a drill instructor during the Korean War. Lewis met and married Jeannette Brown and were blessed with one son and one daughter.


In 1993 he retired from First Chemical where he was a supervisor. Plant coworkers enjoyed working and fishing with him and referred to as "Old Dad."

He was a longtime member of Riverside Baptist Church where he loved to sing in the choir and was active with many different ministries within the church.

Lewis never met a stranger and others enjoyed his up-beat spirit with positive energy that he loved to share. He will be remembered for his true friendship and deep voice, but soft heart and love for others.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two infant brothers,one brother, George A. Smith Jr., 8 sisters; Edna Caldwell, Gertrude Geddie, Lessie McCarty, Elizabeth Matthews, Frances Smith, Billie Kline, Aileene Walin Thompson, Annette Yarbrough.
 

Lewis is survived by his son Brad Smith(Linda) of Pascagoula, Ms and daughter Alice Leipzig(Jim) of Roanoke, Va. He has four grandchildren, Sara and Doug Smith of Pascagoula and Jordan and Haley Leipzig of Los Angeles, Ca. He has a sister, Martha Jo Hayes, brother-in-law James Hayes both of Hattiesburg, Ms and a sister-in-law Joyce Smith of Laurel, Ms and numerous nieces and nephews.
 

At Lewis's request, the family will be having a private family gathering to memorialize his life. You may watch a Photo Video Tribute that is attached under his obituary.
