On December 17, 2024, Margaret “Joan" (Foley) de la Vergne gained her angel wings and passed on to her heavenly home.
Joan was born on November 26, 1941 along with her twin sister Elizabeth “Jean” (Foley) Williams in McAlester, Oklahoma to Dr. Thomas H. Foley and Mariann (Duca) Foley.
Identical twins, they grew up in Port Sulphur, Louisiana, where they graduated High School in 1959. She attended Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia and later LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. She spent her working years at both Charity Hospital and LSU Medical Center in New Orleans.
Joan was married to Charles Edouard de la Vergne, Jr. in New Orleans. They were the parents of a son, Charles Edouard de la Vergne, III (“Charlie”). Joan is preceded in death by both her parents, Dr Thomas Hanley Foley and Mariann Duca Foley and her husband Charles.
Joan is survived by her loving family; a son, Charles E. de la Vergne, III (Ashley) and two grandchildren Claire and Charles IV. She is survived by her only sibling and beloved twin sister, Elizabeth “Jean” Williams (Dr. Dean); nieces and nephews, Jennifer Joan Evans (George), Thomas Dean (Dr. Jo’El Welch) Willliams, Joseph Hunter (Jamie) Williams, Marianna French, Maddie Willliams, Will French, Hunter Williams, Walker Williams along with special friend, Cindy Haydel of New, Orleans, LA.
A devout catholic, Joan will be remembered by her family for her love of the arts and maintaining a beautiful home and garden. She and Jean would pore over a catalog of home décor and design items for hours on end. She and Charles were world travelers and visited many interesting places throughout their lifetimes. Joan was truly loved by her family and friends and most especially by her twin-sister, Jean, and her beloved son Charlie. Joan will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made in her memory to the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be Friday, December 20, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 11:00 am -12:00 noon. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at noon. Interment will be privately held at Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula, MS. Condolences may be expressed online at www.obryantokeefe.com.
