Margaret Linda Smith Epting Obituary

Margaret Linda Smith Epting of Pascagoula, MS passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022 in Jackson, MS at the age of 80.

Linda, as she was known, was born to Mamie Louise and Frank Albert Smith in McComb, MS on December 17,1941. She was a Pascagoula High School graduate and enjoyed many class reunions through the years and connecting with old friends. She was a member of Pascagoula Junior Auxiliary and an active member of The Magnolia Garden Guild where she enjoyed floral arranging.  She enjoyed working in her yard, having unusual plants and telling stories about who had passed them to her or where she had purchased them.  She and her late husband Jim were involved in several carnival clubs through the years and they both enjoyed traveling to Oxford for Ole Miss football games. More recently they could often be found cruising around Pascagoula in their golf cart visiting friends and remembering old times together. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Pascagoula, Pascagoula Country Club and Singing River Yacht Club. Linda was also active in many other community volunteer organizations. Family and friends always enjoyed her special recipes of Gumbo, Shrimp Spaghetti, Cream Eggs and Potato Soup.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years and her parents. She is survived by three daughters, Kim Phillips of Oxford, MS, Leigh Ann Goff (Stacey) of Monroe, LA, Alison Ainsworth (Kyle) of Madison, MS; four grandchildren, James Pittman Phillips, Margaret Ellis Goff, Mamie Boyd Ainsworth and Nolan Thomas Ainsworth.

A private memorial service for family members will take place later this week.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in her memory to the Linda and Jim Epting Student Athletic Trainer Scholarship. MGCCC P.O. Box 99 Perkinston, MS 39573 or . https://mgccc.edu/alumni/mgccc-foundation/memorial-donations/
