Mary Edna Strange Anderson Obituary

Local businesswoman Mary Edna Strange Anderson, 89, matriarch of Anderson’s Bakery, Inc., passed away peacefully at home on June 25, 2022. Born December 5, 1932, in Atlanta, Texas, Mrs. Anderson loved her savior Jesus Christ, her family & her country. Mrs. Anderson worked in a number of roles outside the home in Iowa prior to moving back to Pascagoula, MS & purchasing Cooper’s Bakery in 1976, with her husband, Robert (Bob) Anderson, helping turn it into a Anderson’s Bakery a  local landmark on the Gulf Coast which is still owned and operated by the family.
 

Mrs. Anderson was active in the community serving as Worthy Matron of Engle Chapter No 34 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Chariton, Iowa, President of the Jackson County Republican Women’s Club and was elected to multiple terms as the District 3 Representative for the Jackson County Election Commission, serving as Chairperson & receiving the Election Commissioner Association of Mississippi Service Award in 2008.  Mrs. Anderson was a member of Arlington Heights Baptist Church Enjoyed Music, History, Braves Baseball and most Importantly spending time with her Family & beloved dogs.

 

Mrs. Anderson is Survived by her Sons and Daughters-in-law, Steve & Marcelle Anderson of Knoxville, TN, Bob & Julie Anderson of Mobile, AL, David & Lynae Anderson of Ocean Springs, MS, Tom & Shelley Anderson of Jacksonville, FL, Grandsons Steve Anderson of McAllen, TX, Bobby Anderson of Maryville, TN, Brad Anderson of Mobile, AL, Brian Anderson of Roswell, GA, Brent Anderson of Mobile, Alabama, David Anderson of Tallahassee, FL, William Anderson, Alan Anderson of Jacksonville, FL, Granddaughters Mary Anderson Cozzolino of Gatlinburg, TN, Bonnie Maples of Lenoir City, TN, Numerous Great-Grandsons, Great-Granddaughters, Siblings Arrie Dollard of Highlands Ranch, CO, Joe Strange of Virginia Beach, VI, Kathy Rouse of Red Level, AL, Dear friend Sarah Brown of Hattiesburg, MS, & Melissa Ladnier  Pascagoula MS, and Numerous Nieces & Nephews. Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her Husband of 59 years, Bob Anderson, parents, Mack & Mabel Strange, Brothers Elbert Strange, David Strange , Mack Strange, & Sister Volna Butler.
 

Services will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022 at O’Bryant O’Keefe 4811 Telephone Rd Pascagoula MS . Visitation 11:00am-1:30pm with funeral service to follow at 1:30pm. Her final resting place will conclude at Machpelah Cemetery, 5112 Machpelah Rd Pascagoula MS. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (jdrf.org), the Jackson County Animal Shelter or the Arlington Heights Baptist Church.
