Mary Elsie Petersen Hubley, born July 1, 1931 in Gautier Mississippi passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at age 94.
She lived a large part of her life in New Orleans with her late husband Earl Hubley, and spent the last 35 years back in Gautier. Mary was a graduate of Pascagoula High School class of 1949. She attended Perkinston Jr. College, earning an Associate Degree in education, and was crowned the 1951 Homecoming Queen. She continued her education receiving her Bachelor of Education from Our Lady of Holy Cross College, and finally completing her education with her M.Ed in special education. She was an elementary school teacher who later worked and headed the special education department at her school.
After her husband passed in 1991, she traveled the world with friends and family. She was a person who was always on the move, engaged in community groups, art societies, and with her classmates from Perkinston. She is an original member of the First Baptist Church of Gautier, and frequent attendee of the Palace Casino.
She was preceded in death by; Earl O. Hubley, husband, Otto Joseph Peterson Sr, father; Mary Martin Peterson, mother; Otto Joseph Peterson Jr. and Clarence Warner Peterson, brothers. Peggy Baugh Peterson, Norma Jean Coleman Peterson, Martha Sullivan Peterson sisters in law; Roy and Anna Mae Bourgeios, in laws by marriage.
She is survived by two sons; Earl Rhett Hubley and wife Ellen of Fairhope Al. and Gregg G Hubley and wife Sarah of New Orleans LA; grandchildren: Jessica Leigh Hubley, Atlanta GA, Rebecca (Hubley) and Keenan O’Brien, Atlanta GA, ; Colin Gregory O’Brien and Oscar Otto O’Brien, great-grandsons; Hannah Cardwell Hubley, New York, NY, Augusta Grace Hubley, New Orleans LA. brothers and sisters (nieces and nephews): Melvin Ray Peterson (brother) Gautier MS, Twila Peterson (niece) Gautier, Mel and Courtney Peterson (nephew and spouse) Brentwood TN. Walter and Peggy Greene (sister and spouse) Gautier MS. Wendell and Jackie Greene (nephew and spouse) Ocean Springs, Mary Jennifer McRaney (niece) Gautier, Angela and Joel Shows, Madison MS, Sharron and Pete Lewis Mobile AL, and Deborah Brewer Tupelo MS. (nieces and spouses) Mark and Rachel Peterson Moss Point MS. (nephew and spouse)
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Gautier from 11 am -1pm. Funeral Service will follow at 1pm. Interment will conclude at Pinecrest Cemetery
