Michael Thomas Havard, born June 1, 1953, in Bad Kissingen, Germany, peacefully passed away on May 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was a beloved father, brother, friend and “Paw Paw” as many knew him.
Michael lived a life rich in faith and service to his family and friends with a successful career at Ingalls Shipbuilding where he retired after 35 years, raised 3 children, and attended every sporting event and recital for his children and grandchildren. His dedication to his family was unwavering. He showed up with love, support, and that unforgettable, infectious smile. Michael also celebrated 31 years of sobriety, a journey that become a cornerstone of his life. Through his commitment to the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous, he faithfully lived out its Three Legacies: Recovery, Unity and Service. He leaves behind a lasting impact on the many lives he touched, sharing his testimony, sponsoring others, and walking beside countless individuals on their own path to recovery.
He will be remembered for his “easy does it” attitude — always joyful, his love for all things Mississippi State sports, and quick to aggravate everyone with his signature sarcasm. You never knew if he was serious or just trying to see how long he could keep a straight face before breaking into that trademark smile and boisterous laugh, followed by a casual, “Huh.” And of course, he never missed an opportunity to catch a quick break or snooze in his recliner, usually with the familiar whistle of The Andy GriƯith Show playing in the background.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Ivan Havard; Mother, Lidwina Maria Wegmann Havard; former wife and mother to his 3 children, Jenny Lynne Brown Havard; and his great-grandson, James (“JD”) Douglas Swann. Michael is survived by his children; Christopher, Jonathan (Lauren), Rebecca (Kevin). His Grandchildren; Cherish (Adam), Ryan (Anna Catherine), Michaela, Bridgett, Blair, Grant and Gavin. His great-grandchildren; Grayson, Lawson and Reese. His siblings; Jutta (Denny) and Donald (Jill).

The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel beginning at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Branden Rogers and Rev. Scott Rogers officiating. Family and friends are invited to join us at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Pascagoula, MS for food and fellowship to conclude the day as we gather to remember, share stories, and celebrate the life of Michael “Paw Paw” Havard — and if he were here, he’d probably say, “Y’all don’t cry too long, just make sure there’s plenty to eat, and somebody brought Dr. Pepper, now get on outta here!”
Pallbearers will be Bo Stanley, Randy Smithcus, Jack Reichel, Brian Beaugez, Scott Pierpont, Adam Burnett. Honorary Pallbearers will be Frances Mitchell, Keith Johnston, John McAnally, Pablo Garcia, Jack McDonald.
