Mildred Carole Crawford- White Obituary

 Mildred Carole Crawford-White

Mildred Arlene Crawford, lovingly known as “Millie” to her friends and “Siddy” to her family, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, at her home in Hoover, Alabama, with her daughter by her side. She was born on February 16, 1940, and lived a full, vibrant life marked by devotion, resilience, and joy.

Born the eldest child of Clifton and Mildred Crawford , Millie embraced her role as big sister with pride, care, and unwavering love. She cherished her siblings—Cindy, Kenny, and Butch—and carried that same affection into the relationships she built with her many nieces and nephews. Even later in life, when travel became difficult, she delighted in phone calls and long conversations with them, always eager to stay connected.

Millie spent most of her professional life as a paralegal, where her colleagues knew her as a true go-getter—determined, reliable, and sharp. Outside of work, she found joy in simple pleasures: road trips, day trips, and especially the beach. She loved baking on snowy days and had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature, never missing a good sunrise or sunset.

She was married to Frank White for nearly 20 years, and in her 50s she followed her heart from West Hartford, CT to Gautier, Mississippi to be with the second love of her life, Darryl McVeay. Millie loved to dance—anywhere, anytime—and her favorite song, “Old Time Rock ’n’ Roll,” could get her moving whether she was in the kitchen, living room, or out on the town with Darryl.

Millie’s life, like all lives, came with challenges, yet she faced every obstacle with grit and fierce love. As a single mother, she worked multiple jobs to support her family, always doing her very best and never giving up on the people she held dear. She even coached her son’s lacrosse team when no one else would step up—just one example of her determination and heart.

She is survived by her beloved children: Holly White, Wendy Walsh (Bill), Amy Gable (Lester), and Frank White (Brigid). For the last seven years of her life, she lived with Amy and her family in Hoover, where she shared a close bond with her grandson, Coleman. She watched him grow from a preschooler into a middle schooler, and the connection between them—filled with shared quirks, laughter, and unmistakable similarities—was one of her greatest joys.

Millie deeply valued friendship, and though many of her loved ones have gone before her, she remained close to her lifelong friend Sylvia Yeske. Their 80-year friendship was filled with stories, laughter, and adventures—from raising their children together to memories of being room mothers and brownie troop leaders together, many escapades and bargain-hunting adventures.

During the final seven months of her life, Millie was under the compassionate care of home hospice. Even through periods of frailty and difficulty, she remained charismatic and quick with a joke. She never tried to fit in, but somehow always did—dancing through life to the beat of her own drummer.

Mildred Arlene Crawford will be deeply missed by her family, her friends, and all who were lucky enough to know her. Her love, strength, humor, and spirit will continue to live on in the lives she touched.
