Myrtis Holifield Adams, age 91, of Pascagoula, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at her residence. She was born December 27, 1930 in Laurel, MS to Sherman Leon Holifield and Grace Sellers Holifield. She attended school in Myrick, MS and graduated in 1952 from Mississippi Southern College (USM) in Hattiesburg. Myrtis began her career as an English teacher and retired in 1989 from Jackson County School System as the Librarian of many elementary and secondary schools. She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church and she enjoyed yard work, homemaking, doing things with family and especially her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 64 years, Herbert Frank Adams; sister, Voncile “Sis” Powell; brother, Lavern Holifield.
Myrtis is survived by her daughter, Lisa Leake (Larry), Pascagoula; son, Todd Adams (Karen), Madison, MS; four grandchildren, Christopher Myers, Josh Myers (Kellie), Jeffery Adams, Randi Adams; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, close teacher friends, and devoted friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 2, 2022, 11:00am-12:00pm, at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula. Funeral Service will begin at 12:00pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your church or charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the Staff of Home Instead and Hospice of Light for all they have done to help keep Mrs. Adams comfortable and how much they cared for her over the past several months.
