Nell Ellzey Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Nell Ellzey, on April 22, 2025 in Pascagoula, MS.  She was born on February 10, 1940 in Moss Point, MS and remained a Jackson County, MS resident for the duration of her life.

She was a 1957 graduate of Moss Point High School and a decades long legal secretary, eventually retiring from Ingalls in 2000.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Wallace Holder and Howard Ellzey, her father, Carroll Hill, her  mother and stepfather Gladys and Herbert Garben; her sister, Helen Lennep, her brother, Lester Hill, her stepson, Shannon Ellzey, her daughter-in-law, Bobbie Ellzey and her son-in-law, Allen Cox, all of Jackson County.

She is survived by her son, Mark Brannan and her two beloved Yorkies, Roxie and Rambo, all of Wade, MS, her daughter, Lisa Brannan Cox of Pascagoula, 5 grandchildren, Donald Ellzey of George Co, MS, Stacey Ellzey and Kyle, Brandon and Leah Scott, stepdaughter, Pam Ellzey, stepson, Joe Allen Ellzey, several nieces and nephews, all of Jackson Co., and their families.

Mark and Lisa would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Wanda Payton of Gautier, MS who has been mom’s trusted companion and caregiver for over a decade and who has the patience of a Saint.  Mom adored you, we thank you.

Mom was our biggest cheerleader, did not complain and tried to live a good, Christian life.  Although our pain is just beginning, she is no longer suffering and for that we are grateful.

Mama loved the Lord and sandwiches with warm tomatoes from the garden.  After that, she loved her kids, her dogs and her telephone and not necessarily always in that order.

Mama, miss you already, love you always.

In lieu of donations, if you’re lucky enough to have a living parent, please call them today and tell them you love them and /or go visit and tell them in person.  If this isn’t possible, we’re sure that mama would appreciate any donation to the Jackson County Animal Shelter in her memory if you so choose.

Private service will be held at a later date.
